Back in the late 80’s and 90’s many Irish families were starting getting Personal Computers, which we know as PC’s. However back then the power and storage of the machines was vastly inferior to today’s computers.

One standout hardware feature for me was the portable storage, no it wasn’t a USB stick, don’t make me laugh, that wasn’t even a thing. It was the 3.5" floppy disk, which strange as it sounds was always hard. Try saying that last sentence 5 times quickly.

The ‘floppy’ came from the original older versions, the 8" and the 5¼-inch which were in fact floppy but it was the 3.5" version that changed everything. Funny story, I bought my then girlfriend a box of something like 300 3.5" floppy disks for Christmas one year as she was meant to be getting a PC. To this day the story is still brought up.

Today it is hard enough to even buy a laptop with a CD-Drive let alone trying to get a floppy disk drive but you can still get them on places like eBay. Take our poll above, do you have fond memories of sticking your 3.5" floppy disk into a computer, yeah I really did just go there.
