Google Gives In To EU, Erase Your Past Now

Google has given in to EU demands to provide a method whereby people can request information about themselves to be deleted. Only recently Google’s Larry Page was speaking about how this is a bad idea and may aid the bad guys out there too, imagine also a situation whereby a newspaper publishes links online but yet search engines can’t link to it.

In one way this is good but in other ways this is bad, for the genuine person this is great if there is some info out there that you want un-indexed and removed from Google, but it also helps the corrupt too.

Google will ultimately decide if something is to come down citing the below:

In implementing this decision, we will assess each individual request and attempt to balance the privacy rights of the individual with the public’s right to know and distribute information. When evaluating your request, we will look at whether the results include outdated information about you, as well as whether there’s a public interest in the information — for example, information about financial scams, professional malpractice, criminal convictions, or public conduct of government officials.
