Today Nokia Ireland held a small but well organized event for the media to exclusively demo their new Lumia 820 and 920 devices which will by 1st February next month.
Nokia will launch the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, the first devices in Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 range across all channels. The Lumia 820 is already available via Vodafone, Meteor and O2 both online and in retail, while the Lumia 920 will arrive on the first of next month.
I was very impressed with their demonstration of the devices and their vision of the future orientated around their Lumia range.
I was also delighted to take home a shiny new black Lumia 820 and below is my unboxing of the device, Im very pleased to say that the 820 is great device and feels great in the hand. The upgrade to WP8 makes a huge difference and thankfully these new 820′s and 920′s will come with PR1.1 (Portico) preinstalled.
“We see the Lumia 920 as one of the most exciting phones we have launched at Nokia. It includes some truly groundbreaking innovations: Wireless charging, a screen that automatically adjusts its colour and brightness, depending on sunlight, a touchscreen that even works when you’re wearing gloves and best of all it’s a beautiful device; the Lumia 920 looks just awesome.”
Powered by Windows Phone 8
Windows Phone 8 provides a more personal smartphone experience, with a start screen that replaces endless lists of applications with animated Live Tiles, offering instant updates that can be more easily rearranged to reflect individual priorities and real-time updates on the things that matter most to each individual owner. The ability to sync content between Windows Phone 8 smartphones, Windows 8-based PCs, tablets and the Xbox means that files, music, pictures and video can be accessed in whichever way is most convenient. With Internet Explorer 10 for faster, safer browsing and Microsoft Office built into the platform, Windows Phone 8 is the easiest and best way to get things done.
Wireless charging and partners
Nokia innovation continues in the Lumia range as the world’s first mass market smartphones to come with Qi (pronounced ‘Chee’) wireless charging. At the recent event in NYC, Nokia announced a range of wireless charging accessories and partnerships from the Fatboy Recharge Pillow, which provides a fun way to recharge your Lumia, to the JBL PowerUP, a retro styled high quality audio dock which also supports wireless charging and connectivity.

Its a good question….one I will be asking them tomorrow
Any news about Three selling these phone? There only seems to be mention of details from the other carriers.
Hi Tom,
I will ask them this and report back, they do say all channels so this leaves room to move for networks like Three. Three currently only stock funnily enough 3 Nokia devices so they may have soured to Nokia…but we’ll find out
Thanks for checking in to this for me.
I did see the comment about all channels but I have been hearing rumours and not got any information from Three themselves except a comment from an employee in one of their stores that they had had quite a few requests about them.
Whats going on with the 920, no one is stocking and Nokia are giving nothing away. Do you think we will get the 920 in Ireland or should I just go and buy the 820?
Hi Ger,
From the checking I have done the 920 and this confirms the info above is that the 920 will arrive March, to be honest if you are not looking for the fancy camera on the 920 then go with the 820…great phone…plus you’ll save a few quid too.
You can always buy from PhonesOnline.ie who stock most of the Lumia 920 colours, see this red one at http://www.phonesonline.ie/nokia-lumia-920-red-sim-free.html
They have also just started selling the 620 too
Have Nokia actually released the 820 & 920? I called in to Carphone Warehouse today and they haven’t seen them. The guy in the Three store looked at me as if I was from Mars. I see some of the carriers have the 820 up on their sites.
Total mess Nokia. Get your act together or you will lose more market share. There’s no point in making a phone to a higher quality then the competition if nobody can actually buy one.
Hey Tom,
See my post just now right above to Ger
Hi Hazel. Thanks for the update.
It’s a real shame that the carriers and especially Nokia themselves can not get this info out to the market.
I’ll keep an eye out for the 820.
I don’t suppose that there is any info on whether Three will pick either of these up?
Hey Tom
So far Three have been quiet on these devices but they may yet pick it up if it sells well in the other networks.
Thanks for the updates guys. We’re getting more from you than anybody else. Keep up the good work.
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the great feedback…..thats what we are hear for…happy to be of help
Nice! “a touchscreen that even works when you’re wearing gloves” isn’t groundbraking, my symbian nokia c6 from the stone-age can do that… still a great phone imo
Relax Christoper Sean, theses phones don’t actually exist…. It’s all a big hoax… Shhhh, don’t tell anybody….
